The aim of the study was to promote the development of knowledge-based, high value-added industries and service sectors, including scientific research, in Latvia, using the opportunities created by the order of the armed forces of Latvia and partner countries.
The analysis showed that in Latvia the defense industry sector does not exist in its traditional sense (production of weapons systems, ammunition and military goods). The study analyzed the textile industry, clothing industry, chemical industry, metalworking, mechanical engineering and equipment manufacturing, transportation equipment manufacturing, recycling of raw materials, operation and repair services, water supply industries. Latvia’s industrial capacity was analyzed according to three potential markets: supplies to the Latvian Armed Forces; supplies to the armed forces of NATO and EU countries; supplies of components, materials and industrial goods within the international defense industrial supply chains.
